Who: Sam’s club- An international team of business leaders.
Brief: To provide a whole health overview, including tools to incorporate wellbeing, reduce stress and improve both team and individual health.
Challenges: A new team had been formed, many of
whom had undergone numerous leadership changes in recent times and all working in fast-paced, highly demanding roles.
Tools: The first tool for the everyday challenges faced by the team was Pause, Notice, Choose.
Pause= Stop and take a deep breath.
Notice= What do you feel and sense right now?
Choose= What will you do next?
The aim of this practice over time is that it helps make next steps intentional with a sense of control rather than autopilot. We included many other micro steps
of wellbeing; some as simple as standing up and getting a glass of water before sending the next e-mail.
Other practices included breath-work, compassion, exploring what is within or outside of one’s control, purpose, meaning & belonging
How they felt: The team felt like they had been heard and learned from the experience. The sessions also mean that the leaders possess the information and tools to pass knowledge onto their team, which ensures ever increasing ripples of intentional practices within the workplace.
Summary: There is no better way to invest in your people than to listen, learn
and then explore tools for individuals and the team’s wellness to thrive. We started with two one-hour sessions on consecutive days during the international team’s off-site meeting, followed up with monthly sessions of 60 or 90 minutes at each of the off-sites – this included new members of the team as it grew. All participants were invested in supporting one another as well as themselves.
It’s a privilege to spend my time with wonderful people and help teams to implement a whole health strategy within the workplace. Thank you to everyone at Sam’s Club for having me and for the feedback.

“Loved the advice about making changes to lifestyle that are ‘in your control”
“Love the practical tools that can be used at any time of any day – we do not have a lot of time, so tools need to be easy and quick to deploy and have a noticeable and quick ROI. The team hearts you!”
